Transformative Change (XC) brings the practice of presence to community-based visioning, strategizing and organizing for cohesive and sustainable social transformation. Our community spaces and collective training in inner awareness practices nourish embodied presence and resilience for social change agents, and interconnects individual liberation with liberation for all.
We are seeking an innovative, grounded, and collaborative Managing Program Director to co-lead and expand our suite of online and in-person offerings. This is a new role that will require a leader who can offer both high-level thinking and get down into the operational details. We need someone who can be a visionary and execute. XC is in the midst of rapid growth and you will be someone comfortable with stepping into an organizational structure and culture that is still being seeded.
Black, Indigenous and People of Color, queer people and people from marginalized communities are strongly encouraged to apply.
This is a full time remote position. Salary Range: $60,000 – $70,000, depending on experience, location (cost of living), with limited benefits.
About You
To be successful in this role, you must be humble, self-aware, self-motivated, reliable, accountable, and HIGHLY organized. You must be ready to guide XC from being dependent on our Founder for nearly every detail, to a collaborative, thriving organization working in tandem
with our Founder and outside partners.
You must have a passion for collective liberation, authentic and innovative leadership, racial justice, and community building. You also have:
● a commitment to becoming increasingly self- and racially-aware,
● an open and curious mind about people who are different from you,
● a natural urge to collaborate,
● and a willingness to bring your whole self (but not give your whole life!) to the job
Your leadership style must be transparent and non-hierarchical, and you must model balance and healthy work habits.
You should be comfortable networking and promoting XC in many communities and spaces, as well as working at a computer on nitty-gritty details. You must be proficient with Slack, Google Suite and (ideally) project management software, and have the ability to learn new systems and
technology quickly.
You must be able to create and track a budget, manage others in a supportive manner, learn new and various skills, create systems and respond to change on the spot.
If you can roll with what is happening in the moment without stressing out, and take a project from idea to execution without being told what to do, this position may be for you.
What will the Managing Program Director do?
● Work with the Founder to guide XC’s vision, priorities, and programming
● Build, lead, and manage a team to facilitate online and in-person offerings that bring together individuals committed to personal and collective liberation, and transforming race in their communities, centers, circles, and institutions.
● Oversee communications, registration, logistics, staffing, and content of programs and events
● Manage program budgets and timelines
Qualifications
● Minimum of three years experience leading a team in a nonprofit environment
● Comfortable with technology and navigating new platforms
● Ability to work alone and with a team of remote staff and volunteers
● Flexible schedule to accommodate meetings on pacific and eastern time zones and weekend work
What’s unique about XC?
We believe that a deep, sustained personal practice cultivates the sensibilities necessary to become embodied agents of conscious social change directed at building a society of those same attributes — of love and justice.
Our programs echo the infamous charge to “educate, agitate and organize” made by B.R. Ambedkar, who by these means invited hundreds of thousands of India’s “untouchables” to self-liberation from a debilitating caste system. Only when people work from self-empowerment — and in particular, the capacity to be with oneself and with what is — can their work be that of true freedom.
Though some kinds of change may come easily, we believe that complete transformation requires that we practice changing again and again until we align ourselves with that change in our thoughts, words and actions.
We believe that from this solid foundation, we all can give more, do more, and work together better to build a more cohesive, sustainable environment for social transformation locally and nationally. Our team culture promotes self-care, self-management and integrity, and encourages team members to connect as whole humans, not just as people with interlacing to-do lists.
